Who We Are
For more than 50 years, the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) has strengthened the nation’s health care workforce and brought high-quality care to communities with the greatest need. Through scholarships and loan repayment programs, we support more than 17,500 primary care medical, dental, and behavioral health providers committed to serving in areas facing critical workforce shortages.
Together, NHSC participants:
- Deliver essential care to nearly 18.5 million patients at more than 8,400 community health care centers nationwide.
- Ensure patients receive care regardless of their ability to pay.
- Include more than 7,900 behavioral health providers who expand access to urgently needed mental health and opioid use disorder treatment in hard-hit communities.
