Scholar travel request instructions for ALL interviews

Things you should know before submitting:

  • A site will not populate in the My BHW portal if it does not meet your HPSA score requirement.
  • If a site is not listed in the Health Workforce Connector (HWC), it is not NHSC-approved. To obtain NHSC-approval, a site must apply for approval and recertify every three (3) years to remain in the program.
  • Contact your NHSC Analyst via the Employment Assistance inquiry in your My BHW portal for any site-related questions.

2. Obtain NHSC approval to interview at a site

After NHSC receives your Scholar Travel Request, you will get a message in the My BHW portal within three (3) business days letting you know:

  • If you’re approved to interview at your selected site(s).
    • You may only interview and accept a job offer at an approved site(s).
    • If your request is not approved, it means the site does not meet your service requirement. You will need to continue your job search.
  • If CivilityMS has been notified that your job interview travel (if applicable) is approved to begin travel planning.

3. Follow the HPSA score six-month rule

A site’s HPSA score can sometimes change while you are searching for a job. Here’s what that means for you:

  • NHSC will honor the site’s HPSA score for six months from the date your scholar travel request to interview is approved.
  • If you accept a job and upload the NHSC Offer & Acceptance Employment Form (PDF - 285 KB) as proof of job offer acceptance within those six months, the HPSA score will stay valid through your start date.
  • If you do not accept a job within six months of your approved travel request, you must submit a new scholar travel request to confirm the site’s HPSA score again.

If the score has decreased below your HPSA requirement, you must look for a job at another NHSC-approved site.
